Auction Bridge and International Bridge (IB) are exciting variations of the classic Bridge card game.
As the third evolutionary stage in the Bridge family, Auction Bridge & International Bridge (IB) evolved from Straight Bridge (also known as Bridge Whist). These games served as direct predecessors to modern Contract Bridge, tracing their roots back to Whist and Bridge Whist.
Auction Bridge & IB feature dramatically different scoring systems compared to Contract Bridge - including trick scoring, bonus scoring, and penalty scoring - and completely lack the vulnerability concept found in Contract Bridge.
While trump selection rules are nearly identical, Contract Bridge introduces more complexity in this aspect. The gameplay and rules otherwise remain quite similar between the variants.
The dealer initiates the trump selection process and must declare their intention to win at least the odd trick in a trump suit or at No-trumps. Bidding prioritizes higher point values rather than simply more tricks - for example, 3 Spades (27 points) outranks 4 Clubs (24 points).
Each trick beyond six scores:
Notrumps: 10 points
Spades: 9 points
Hearts: 8 points
Diamonds: 7 points
Clubs: 6 points
Game requires 30 points
