Button Mapper: Remap your keys

4.1
Application Description

Button Mapper is a versatile tool that allows you to remap your device's hardware buttons to perform a wide array of custom actions, enhancing your user experience. With Button Mapper, you can easily assign any app, shortcut, or specific action to your volume buttons and other hardware keys with a single press, double press, or long press. This app supports remapping for most physical or capacitive keys, including volume buttons, assist buttons, and capacitive home, back, and recent apps keys. Additionally, Button Mapper extends its functionality to many gamepads, remotes, and other peripheral devices, making it a comprehensive solution for button customization.

While root access is not necessary for most actions, certain advanced features may require an adb command from a connected PC if your device is not rooted. It's important to note that Button Mapper does not function when the screen is off unless your device is rooted or you execute an adb command.

Here are some examples of what you can achieve with Button Mapper:

  • Long press to toggle your flashlight
  • Remap your TV remote control
  • Press to broadcast custom intents, scripts, or commands
  • Long press to open the camera and take a photo
  • Double tap to launch your favorite app or shortcut
  • Double tap to open your notifications
  • Swap your back and recent apps keys (capacitive buttons only!)
  • Use your volume buttons to adjust screen brightness
  • Long press to toggle "do not disturb" mode
  • And much more

The pro version of Button Mapper unlocks additional features such as simulating keycodes, swapping volume keys on orientation change, defaulting to ring volume on Android Pie or later, pocket detection, themes, changing back and recents buttons, and customizing haptic feedback on button press and long press.

Actions that can be mapped to buttons or keys include launching any app or shortcut, disabling the button, broadcasting intents, running scripts, camera shutter, turning the screen off, toggling the flashlight, accessing quick settings, showing notifications, opening the power dialog, taking screenshots, controlling music playback, adjusting volume or muting, switching to the last app, toggling do not disturb, adjusting brightness, and many more.

Button Mapper supports a variety of buttons, including physical home, back, and recent apps/menu buttons, volume up and down, most camera buttons, many headset buttons, and custom buttons on your phone, headphones, gamepads, TV remote, and other peripheral devices.

Additional options allow you to change the long press or double tap duration, delay initial button press for better double tap operation, and disable Button Mapper while using specific apps, among other customizations.

For troubleshooting, ensure that the Button Mapper accessibility service is enabled and allowed to run in the background. Note that Button Mapper does not work with onscreen buttons or the power button, and the available options depend on the buttons present on your device.

Button Mapper uses Accessibility services to detect when physical or capacitive buttons are pressed, enabling them to be remapped to custom actions. It does not collect or share any personal information, ensuring your privacy is respected. The app also uses the Device Administrator permission to lock the screen if the "Turn screen off" action is selected. To remove this permission, you can open Button Mapper, click on the menu, and select "Uninstall."
