If you're a follower of Rockstar Games on X (the Everything App formerly known as Twitter), you might have been taken aback or puzzled when you saw the renowned GTA studio tweeting about the film Marching Powder and its star, Danny Dyer. The tweet read:

From our friends Nick Love and Danny Dyer, the absolute legends behind The Football Factory...@MarchingPowder_ — a proper naughty comedy out tomorrow in the UK and Ireland.

Why would Rockstar, a company with 21 million followers, promote a smaller British film? And who is Danny Dyer? Let's dive in and clarify these points.

Who is Danny Dyer?

Daniel John Dyer, known as Danny Dyer, hails from East London and is a household name in the UK. Rockstar's tweet hailed him as an "absolute legend," a term defined by the Urban Dictionary as:

"A person who embodies the pinnacle of all the important social aspects. Any person who is funny, reckless, original and sensitive in the right measures is likely to be nominated a legend by his associates. A person to whose persona you aspire."

Dyer's acting career began in 1993, and he's known for portraying tough, working-class characters. This image is bolstered by his outspoken nature on social and political issues, often adopting a "tough uncle" persona. For instance, in a 2010 advice column for Zoo magazine, he suggested a reader dealing with a breakup should go "on a rampage [drinking session] with the boys."

Dyer's social media presence is equally entertaining, as seen in this tweet:

Roll on bonfire night..........it's gonna get strapped to a great big massive fuck off Rocket so it can join the other Furbys in the sky...

How is Danny Dyer Connected to Rockstar?

If you're a fan of the Grand Theft Auto series, you've likely heard Danny Dyer's voice as he played Kent Paul, the manager of the rock band Love Fist in GTA: Vice City. He reprised this role in GTA: San Andreas, where Kent managed the Gurning Chimps and later produced for rapper Madd Dogg.

However, Dyer's connection to Rockstar goes deeper. In 2004, he starred in The Football Factory, a film directed by Nick Love and produced by Rockstar Games. This venture into film production marked a unique chapter for the gaming giant.

Marching Powder, a new film hitting theaters in the UK and Ireland, reunites Dyer with director Nick Love. While not a sequel to The Football Factory, it explores similar themes like football hooliganism, heavy drinking, drug use, and British dark humor. Despite Rockstar's promotion, they have no direct involvement with Marching Powder. The studio is simply supporting the film due to its connection with Dyer and Love from their past collaboration.

Is Vice City's Kent Paul Returning for GTA 6?

The short answer is: we don't know. And Rockstar's social media post about Marching Powder doesn't hint at any connection to GTA 6. Yet, let's indulge in some speculation. Could Kent Paul make an appearance in Grand Theft Auto 6?

It's crucial to understand that the GTA series spans two distinct universes: the 3D era (PS2 and PSP games) and the HD era (starting with GTA 4). These universes have separate storylines, which is why GTA 5's Los Santos differs significantly from San Andreas' version, and why characters from the 3D era are not directly mentioned in the HD era games.

However, there are instances of overlap. Grove Street from San Andreas appears in GTA 5, and several gangs from the 3D universe, like the Ballas, are present in the HD universe. Lazlo, a recurring character, also bridges the two eras. Notably, Kent Paul's name appears on the Vinewood Walk of Fame in GTA 5.

So, is there a chance that Kent Paul could return in GTA 6? It's certainly within the realm of possibility, but the Marching Powder post on X doesn't provide any clues towards that. The gaming community will eagerly await further announcements from Rockstar.
