It tips the scales at 7.5 pounds and is 0.85 inches thick at its slimmest. Like the Alienware 18, it includes a 360W power brick and is recommended to be used plugged in. Due to its smaller size, it features a 16-inch display and a standard laptop keyboard without a dedicated numpad, and lacks an ethernet port. Despite this, it can be outfitted with the same high-end internal components, including an Intel Core Ultra 9 HX processor and up to an Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU, supported by a strong cooling system.
During the Memorial Day sale, four models are discounted. The entry-level model at $2,850 features an RTX 5070 Ti GPU. The $2,999.99 and $3,150 models both come with an RTX 5080 GPU, while the top-end model at $3,650 is equipped with an RTX 5090 GPU.

Notebookcheck reports that the RTX 5070 Ti mobile GPU is a significant upgrade, matching the performance of the RTX 4080, while the RTX 5070 aligns with the RTX 4070. These GPUs should comfortably handle games at the native 1920x1200 resolution.
Tom's Hardware indicates that the RTX 5080 mobile GPU offers a 15%-20% performance boost over the RTX 4080 and is about 5% more powerful than the RTX 4090. It presents a compelling value proposition, being nearly $1,000 less than the RTX 5090 while only trailing by about 15% in performance. With the QHD+ (2560x1600) display on the Alienware Area-51, the RTX 5080 should deliver high framerates in new and upcoming games, especially when paired with DLSS 4 technology.
The Area-51: New Style, More Power, Better Cooling
The 2025 Alienware Area-51 introduces a magnesium alloy chassis with an advanced cooling system to manage the latest high-performance components. This system features additional fans, larger vents for increased airflow, more copper, and a new thermal interface material for efficient heat dissipation. Dell states that the laptop can maintain a power ceiling of up to 240W TDP without increased noise levels.
The design of the Area-51 emphasizes sleek contours with rounded edges and soft corners, a departure from the typical squared-off look. The hinges are mostly internal, making them nearly invisible. True to Alienware's style, the laptop offers extensive RGB LED customization options. Connectivity includes three USB Type-A 3.2 15Gbps ports (one with PowerShare), two Thunderbolt/USB Type-C ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a card reader. The 16-inch model weighs 7.5 pounds, while the 18-inch model is heavier at 9.6 pounds.
