"Death Planet" Confirmed for New Predator Film, Inspired by Shadow of the Colossus

The debut trailer for *Predator: Badlands* has ignited a flurry of questions among fans, particularly regarding the design of the new Predator, Dek. In an insightful interview with Bloody Disgusting, director Dan Trachtenberg shared intriguing details about this latest installment in the iconic sci-fi franchise, shedding light on his innovative approach to the legendary alien hunter.

Dek, portrayed by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, is a unique addition to the Predator universe. Described as an underdog Yautja "runt," Dek takes on the protagonist role, a departure from the typical Yautja antagonists seen in previous Predator films. The character's journey unfolds on a "Death Planet" named Kalisk, where he strives to prove his worth to his father and earn acceptance within his clan.

Visually, Dek stands out with a design that some fans have noted as more human-like than previous Predators. His smaller stature aligns well with his narrative as an underdog, adding depth to his character.

*Predator: Badlands* centers on Dek's story, but he is not the only character of interest on Kalisk. Elle Fanning joins the cast, playing a character whose appearance has sparked speculation, particularly due to the Weyland Yutani logo visible in her eyes, suggesting a connection to the *Alien* franchise. Trachtenberg hinted at an intriguing dynamic between Dek and Fanning's character, drawing inspiration from the 2005 PlayStation classic, *Shadow of the Colossus*.

"As inspired as I am by movies, I've been very inspired by video games [like] *Shadow of the Colossus*, where you have a protagonist paired with someone else who provides color and connection," Trachtenberg explained. He highlighted the emotional impact of the relationship between the protagonist and the horse in *Shadow of the Colossus*, suggesting a similar poignant connection between Dek and Fanning's character, who contrasts Dek's laconic nature with her own vibrant and capable persona.

While Trachtenberg remained coy about the specifics of Fanning's character and any direct *Alien* connections, he teased a "unique hook" to her role that enhances the pairing with Dek.

Fans can mark their calendars for *Predator: Badlands*, set to launch on November 7, 2025. In the meantime, Trachtenberg's animated anthology, *Predator: Killer of Killers*, will premiere in June, offering more excitement in the Predator universe.
