Snow White, directed by Marc Webb known for The Amazing Spider-Man series, faced a challenging start at the box office, pulling in a domestic total of $43 million during its opening weekend. This figure marks the second-highest domestic opening of 2025, only surpassed by Captain America: Brave New World, and it topped the charts for the week. However, it fell short of expectations and did not match the opening weekend earnings of other Disney live-action remakes like Dumbo, which debuted at $45 million in 2019. High-grossing predecessors such as The Lion King (2019), Beauty and the Beast (2017), The Jungle Book (2016), and The Little Mermaid (2023) all opened with over $100 million domestically.
Internationally, Snow White's performance was similarly subdued, with an opening weekend of $44.3 million, leading to a global total of $87.3 million, according to Comscore estimates.
This live-action adaptation of Disney's 1937 animated classic features Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. With a hefty production budget reportedly over $250 million, the film faces a steep challenge to break even, especially factoring in marketing expenses.
Despite the initial lukewarm reception, there is a glimmer of hope for Snow White. The case of Mufasa: The Lion King, which started with a domestic opening of $35.4 million but eventually amassed over $717 million worldwide, suggests that Snow White could follow a similar path as a sleeper hit.
Meanwhile, Captain America: Brave New World has continued to perform well, reaching a global total of $400.8 million ($192.1 million domestic and $208.7 million international) after six weekends, though it faces ongoing scrutiny.
IGN's review of Snow White awarded it a 7/10, praising it for meaningfully adapting the original story rather than simply replicating it.
