Fallout 76 Season 20: Embrace the Ghoul Life in the Wasteland
Fallout 76's latest update, Season 20, introduces an exciting transformation for players in the radiation-soaked world of Appalachia: the chance to become a Ghoul. Bethesda officially announced this update on March 18, titled "The Ghoul Within," which is now live and brimming with ghoul-centric features, mechanics, and new cosmetics for players to personalize their C.A.M.P.
Unleash the Ghoul Within
In this thrilling update, players can embark on the "Leap of Faith" questline to undergo Ghoulification, leading them to a previously unexplored part of the Savage Divide. Here, they'll encounter new characters crucial to their transformation. Embracing your inner Ghoul unlocks unique abilities like Glow and Feral, alongside 30 exclusive Ghoul perks, known affectionately as "Gherks."
The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics with a meter that boosts various stats based on its level. Let it drop to 0%, and you'll experience dramatic gameplay shifts: "+150% Melee Damage, -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy." Meanwhile, the Glow ability lets players consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, enhancing maximum health, healing damage, and contributing to Gherks.
With 28 perks to choose from and two new legendary perks tailored for Ghouls, players have a plethora of options. Note that Ghouls can't access perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance, as these are irrelevant to their new existence.
A Day In The Life of A Ghoul
Navigating the wasteland as a Ghoul comes with unique advantages, thanks to the Gherks and abilities at your disposal. However, be prepared for a chilly reception from factions like the Brotherhood of Steel, who may turn hostile, potentially locking you out of certain questlines. Fortunately, a new NPC named Jaye offers disguises that allow Ghouls to access content they'd otherwise miss out on. If the Ghoul life doesn't suit you, you can revert to being human via the Character Screen, though it's a one-way journey. Reverting back to a Ghoul requires 1000 Atoms through the Ghoul Retransformation option.
Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes
For those eager to dive into the action or seasoned survivors looking for a fresh start, the Level 50 Character Boost is now available for 1500 Atoms. This boost, part of the Season 20 update, catapults players into the heart of multiplayer experiences like Daily Ops and Public Events, as well as some story content.
The update also includes a slew of bug fixes and balance adjustments, ranging from accessibility improvements to combat and weapon tweaks. Bethesda has also teased the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update, set for April 29, which promises further enhancements to the game.
Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has faced its share of challenges but has steadily improved, earning a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam with 76% of reviews being favorable. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, inviting players to explore the evolving world of Appalachia.
