Final Fantasy 9 25th Anniversary Website Updates
New Character Profiles
Speculation about a FF9 remake is reigniting thanks to Square Enix's recent updates to the 25th anniversary website. New profiles have been added for beloved characters like Zidane, Vivi, Garnet, and Steiner, fueling fans' hopes for a forthcoming remake.
The launch of FF9’s 25th anniversary website earlier this year already sparked whispers of a remake, and those rumors grew louder when Square Enix shared a Vivi quote on Twitter, beloved by fans of the black mage.
The latest website update showcases icons of four out of the eight main characters. Clicking these icons reveals detailed descriptions and fresh artwork by FF9’s character designer, Toshiyuki Itahana, who has also contributed to the Crystal Chronicles and Chocobo series. These descriptions provide insights into each character's goals and role within the story.
While nothing has been officially confirmed, the meticulous detail Square Enix has put into this anniversary celebration suggests that a significant announcement might be on the horizon. Fans eagerly await further news about a possible FF9 remake.
New Merch Available
Square Enix has also expanded its 25th anniversary merchandise collection for FF9. New items include Garnet’s necklace, a wearable replica of Vivi’s hat, and a set of acrylic standees, among others.
Garnet’s Silver Necklace is available for pre-order, with an anticipated release date of November 15. Priced at around 38,500 yen, or approximately $260, it's a must-have for collectors. Vivi’s hat, also available for pre-order, is set to launch on September 6 at a cost of 17,600 yen, or about $120.
The FF9 Acrylic Stand Collection offers eight different designs in blind boxes, adding an element of surprise for fans.
With these developments and the array of new merchandise, the prospect of an FF9 remake seems more tangible than ever. Although Square Enix remains silent on official announcements, the community's enthusiasm for revisiting their cherished journey through Gaia remains undiminished.
