George R.R. Martin Joins Animated Hercules Film as Producer, Delaying Winds of Winter?

Author : Camila May 26,2025

George R.R. Martin, the renowned writer behind the epic fantasy series *Game of Thrones*, has recently taken on a new role as a producer for an upcoming animated film titled *A Dozen Tough Jobs*. This project, announced by The Hollywood Reporter, will offer a fresh take on the classic Greek myth of Hercules and his 12 labors, viewed through the eyes of a farmer in 1920s Mississippi. While Martin will not be contributing to the screenplay, the writing duties have been entrusted to Joe R. Lansdale, known for his quirky novel *Bubba Ho-Tep* where Elvis battles an Egyptian mummy.

David Steward II, head of Lion Forge Entertainment, expressed enthusiasm about Martin's involvement, stating, "If anyone understands the power of epic stories and expansive franchises, it's George R.R. Martin." He further emphasized the unique approach of *A Dozen Tough Jobs*, describing it as a groundbreaking reinterpretation that blends historical grounding with innovative myth exploration.

Despite the excitement surrounding this new venture, fans of Martin's *A Song of Ice and Fire* series are still eagerly awaiting *The Winds of Winter*, the long-delayed sixth book in the saga. It has been nearly 14 years since the release of *A Dance with Dragons* in July 2011, and Martin has confirmed plans for a seventh and final book, *A Dream of Spring*. However, the completion of *The Winds of Winter* remains elusive, with no set release date in sight.

While fans wait, Martin has remained active in various other projects. He has contributed to several *Game of Thrones* TV spin-offs, including the acclaimed *House of the Dragon*, and has ventured into writing fictional historical novels set within the same universe. Additionally, Martin has made his mark in the gaming world by crafting the backstory for the critically acclaimed *Elden Ring*.

In a recent blog post dated April 7, 2025, Martin addressed the ongoing speculation about *The Winds of Winter*, firmly denying any imminent release and expressing frustration over the constant rumors. He admitted that television projects had consumed much of his time in the previous year, further delaying progress on the book.

As Martin continues to diversify his portfolio, fans can only hope that the wait for *The Winds of Winter* will eventually come to an end, allowing them to return to the richly detailed world of Westeros.
