Helldivers 2 has just rolled out a major update, patch 01.003.000, available now for PC and PlayStation 5 players. This update introduces a host of exciting new features, including the addition of new Illuminate enemies, weapon customization and progression, and changes to the Superstore, ensuring players have more control and variety in their gameplay experience.
Following tantalizing teases from developer Arrowhead, Helldivers 2 now faces a full-scale invasion from the Illuminate alien faction. The PlayStation Blog details the new enemies introduced in this patch. The Stingray, for instance, are jetfighters that bolster Illuminate forces with aerial support, targeting Helldivers with deadly strafing runs. The Crescent Overseer poses a new threat with its ability to lay barrages on Helldivers taking cover. Additionally, the Fleshmob—a "failed" Illuminate experiment—is a monstrous brute, a Frankenstein's amalgamation of Voteless parts that players must work hard to defeat.
Attention, Helldivers: This is a Galactic Emergency.

The true Illuminate invasion has begun. In a sudden and completely unprovoked offensive manoeuvre, the full Illuminate fleet is emerging from the Meridia Singularity. Nothing is safe - not even the Heart of Democracy itself. pic.twitter.com/2hgtK6akMb
Arrowhead has hinted at "sightings of other, even larger ships," leaving players curious about what other surprises await in the game.
A significant addition to Helldivers 2 is the introduction of weapon customization and progression. For the first time, most primary weapons can now be leveled up by completing missions, unlocking new attachments through Requisition. Players can also personalize their weapons with new patterns, enhancing both their functionality and aesthetics.
Here’s the official description of the new customization features:
Whether it's tweaking sights for precision, changing color patterns, adjusting magazines for ammo capacity, muzzles to optimize weapon performance characteristics or adjusting under-barrel attachments for the handling you want, you're in command of how your weaponry performs on the battlefield. This level of individual attunement is sure to make your favorite primary best in its class.
Alongside weapon customization, Arrowhead has introduced a variety of new patterns for the FRV themed on the Viper Commandos, Freedom's Flame, Chemical Agents, and Truth Enforcers Warbonds. These patterns will be available starting May 15 with the launch of the Masters of Ceremony Warbond.
The Superstore has also seen a major overhaul, ensuring that desired items are always available and players no longer have to wait for them to cycle back into rotation.
In addition to these new features, patch 01.003.000 includes an extensive balance pass with adjustments to spread, drag, sway, melee weapons stamina cost, shrapnel spawning, and fire damage, enhancing the overall gameplay experience.
