The developers behind Hollow Knight: Silksong have clarified the game's brief appearance during Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase 2025 alongside the new ROG Ally X handheld.
During the presentation, Xbox president Sarah Bond mentioned Silksong would be "available at launch and in Game Pass when Ally releases later this year" — sparking speculation that the game might debut as a launch title for the device, scheduled for Holiday 2025.
However, Team Cherry has since corrected this assumption.
Developer Confirms Holiday Release Window
Speaking on the game's official Discord, Team Cherry marketing manager Matthew 'Leth' Griffin clarified that Silksong isn't waiting for the ROG Ally X launch — confirming the game will arrive before the holiday season.
"I confirmed BEFORE Holiday," Griffin stated, emphasizing: "we are not tied to a console release."
When asked specifically about which holiday timeframe he meant, Griffin confirmed: "Christmas yes."
Possible September Release?
The timing raises questions — especially considering Silksong will be playable at Melbourne's Australian Centre for the Moving Image starting September 18th. Could this museum appearance hint at an imminent launch?

Fan Reactions to Showcase Appearance
Many anticipated clearer release details during the Xbox showcase, especially after recent Steam page updates suggested an imminent launch — possibly even a surprise drop.
Instead, Xbox's surprise release went to Final Fantasy XVI, leaving Silksong fans still awaiting concrete news about the long-delayed Metroidvania sequel. With Christmas now just six months away, the wait may soon be over.
