Star Wars enthusiasts have reason to celebrate: Lucasfilm has resumed its ambitious initiative to chart the galaxy of the iconic sci-fi series, unveiling an incredibly detailed map featuring over 500 planets.
Have you ever questioned the distance between Tatooine and Hoth? How secluded was Yoda truly, hidden away in his swamp on Dagobah? Or just how remote Jakku is from the galaxy's core? Now, the answers are at your fingertips.
Additional areas of the galaxy's enigmatic Unknown Regions have been documented—and behold, Exegol, the Sith world from The Rise of Skywalker, which Rey had to locate by aligning an ancient dagger with the horizon and infiltrating the wrecked Death Star. If only she had access to this map, the plot might have been clearer.
Despite the film emphasizing the perilous journey to reach Exegol (and the subsequent arrival of half the galaxy regardless), it is not the outermost planet on the map. Notably, the Unknown Regions also feature Csilla, the homeworld of the enigmatic blue-skinned Chiss species, whose most prominent figure is Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Not every Star Wars planet you may know is included. Significant exclusions are "extragalactic" sites located outside the primary Star Wars galaxy, such as the cloning facility planet Kamino and Peridea, the destination in Ahsoka after the series transitions to a completely different galaxy.
Lucasfilm has committed to maintaining the map with regular updates and plans to release more focused regional maps for densely populated zones like the Inner Rim, Colonies, Core, and Deep Core.

Upcoming releases in the Star Wars universe include a second season of Ahsoka and the theatrical debut of The Mandalorian & Grogu. Ryan Gosling is also set to venture into the galaxy far, far away in the 2027 film Star Wars: Starfighter.
