Magic: The Gathering Universe Goes Cinematic

Hasbro has exciting news for fans of Magic: The Gathering, announcing plans to bring the iconic card game to screens across the globe. In partnership with Legendary Entertainment, they aim to create a shared universe for Magic: The Gathering that will span both movies and TV shows, with the film taking precedence.

Legendary Entertainment, known for producing blockbuster hits such as "Dune," the "Godzilla" series including "Godzilla vs Kong," and "Detective Pikachu," is eager to take on this project. "We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved IP, and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering," stated the chairman of worldwide production at Legendary.

While details are still emerging, it seems the upcoming movie and TV adaptations at Legendary may be distinct from the previously announced Magic: The Gathering animated series set for Netflix. However, there's a possibility that plans could evolve, potentially integrating the animated series into this expansive shared universe.

Magic: The Gathering, originally created by Wizards of the Coast in 1993, has evolved into one of the world's most popular trading card games. Wizards of the Coast joined the Hasbro family in 1999, enhancing Hasbro's portfolio of entertainment products.

Hasbro is well-versed in transforming its properties into cinematic experiences, with a track record that includes adaptations like G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons and Dragons. Currently, Hasbro is developing several other projects, such as new G.I. Joe films, a Power Rangers movie, and a Beyblade film, demonstrating their commitment to expanding their intellectual properties into new media formats.
