A recently uploaded Donald Trump mod for the popular game Marvel Rivals has been removed from Nexus Mods, sparking discussion amongst players. The mod, which replaced Captain America's model with that of Donald Trump, quickly circulated on social media, even generating interest in a purported Joe Biden counterpart. However, attempts to locate the mod on Nexus Mods now result in a "not found" error. The Biden mod also appears unavailable.
This action aligns with Nexus Mods' 2020 policy banning mods related to US sociopolitical issues. This policy, implemented during the highly contested 2020 presidential election, aims to maintain a neutral platform.
Reactions on social media were mixed. While many players found the ban unsurprising, citing the incongruity of Trump's likeness with Captain America's character, others expressed dissatisfaction with Nexus Mods' stance on political content. It's worth noting that this isn't the first instance of Trump-themed video game mods; mods featuring him remain available for other titles like Skyrim, Fallout 4, and XCOM 2.
Interestingly, Marvel Rivals developer NetEase Games hasn't yet commented on the use of character mods, including those depicting political figures. The company is currently focused on addressing other issues, such as resolving gameplay bugs and rectifying incorrect bans.
