Hashino recently revealed his vision for the studio's future, expressing a strong interest in developing a Sengoku period-based game. He envisions this setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Regarding the future of Metaphor: ReFantazio, Hashino confirmed there are no current plans for a sequel. His focus remains on completing the current project, a game originally conceived as the third major JRPG series following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. His ambition is for it to become a flagship title for the company.
While a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel is unlikely, an anime adaptation is under consideration. The team is already working on their next project, though it won't be a direct continuation of Metaphor: ReFantazio. The game itself has been a remarkable success for Atlus, boasting a peak concurrent player count exceeding 85,961 – surpassing even Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
