Microsoft Unveils Retro Classics for Game Pass Members
Microsoft has partnered with Antstream Arcade to introduce Retro Classics with Game Pass, bringing more than 50 iconic Activision titles from the 1980s and 1990s to subscribers. The collection features legendary games like Commando, Pitfall!, and Kaboom!, with some titles dating back 45 years. Notably, these classics now support save functionality – a first for many retro titles.
Microsoft describes this initiative as "a commitment to game preservation and backward compatibility." The service will be available to all Game Pass subscribers in existing markets.
Expanding the Classic Gaming Library
Microsoft plans to gradually expand the collection to over 100 titles, adding more Activision and Blizzard classics monthly. The initial lineup includes:
- Atlantis & Atlantis II
- Commando
- Demon Attack
- Grand Prix
- H.E.R.O.
- MechWarrior 2
- Pitfall! Series
- River Raid Duology
- Space Quest Titles
- Zork Adventures
Platform Accessibility and Features
Retro Classics offers cross-platform functionality across Xbox consoles, PC via the Xbox app, and cloud streaming on compatible smart TVs and VR headsets. Players can compete in global challenges and unlock new achievements while enjoying modern conveniences like save states.
Microsoft's announcement follows recent news about Wave 2 of May 2025's Game Pass lineup and Hellblade 2's upcoming PS5 release.
