Nintendo has announced three upcoming enhancements for N64 titles included in the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, though Switch 2 owners will enjoy exclusive access to two of these features.
The new additions include fully customizable controller mapping, gameplay rewind functionality, and a nostalgic CRT television visual effect.

Current Switch users can only access controller customization, while all three features will launch simultaneously with the Switch 2 on June 5th.
The community has voiced disappointment about feature limitations, with one comment joking, "A CRT filter as next-gen tech? Switch 2's power truly knows no bounds." Another user questioned why such basic features require newer hardware.

Nintendo showcased these features using classic titles: Super Mario 64 and Mario Golf demonstrated the rewind capability, Kirby 64 illustrated the CRT visual effect, while Star Fox 64 highlighted the enhanced control customization available on both platforms.

Ahead of the Switch 2's June 5th launch, Nintendo has updated its Online app across platforms. Reports surfaced about an early console acquisition, though functionality remains locked behind a day-one update. Meanwhile, previews of Mario Kart World have surfaced alongside news about backward-compatibility enhancements, variable refresh rate details, and GameChat's phone verification system. Despite rapid pre-order sellouts last month, Nintendo America's leadership assures adequate holiday season supply.
