With Summer Game Fest 2025 just around the corner, excitement is building for this year's reveals. Organizers announced via Twitter (X) on May 28th that a record-breaking 60+ partners will participate—including Nintendo's long-awaited return to the showcase.
While Nintendo skipped the previous two Summer Game Fest events to prioritize its Nintendo Direct presentations, the company confirms its 2025 participation. This aligns perfectly with their upcoming next-generation handheld console launch, tentatively dubbed Switch 2.
Though their SGF appearance doesn't promise a full stage presentation, attendees can expect Switch 2 details and potential game trailers for upcoming titles on the new platform.
Xbox Showcase Potential Highlights: Everwild and State of Decay 3
Microsoft continues its annual SGF tradition with the Xbox Games Showcase. Beyond confirmed appearances from Call of Duty, Gears of War: E-Day, and The Outer Wilds 2, speculation suggests two long-awaited titles might finally resurface.
State of Decay 3, originally unveiled in 2020, has shown development progress. The 2024 showcase featured a cinematic trailer with in-engine footage, suggesting substantial advancement. Xbox CEO Phil Spencer reinforced this optimism during a February 2025 interview, calling it one of his most anticipated projects.
Rare's mysterious Everwild also garners attention. First revealed in 2019 as a "magical natural world adventure," Spencer recently visited Rare's studio and noted significant development progress during the same interview. While neither title has official showcase confirmation, their prominence in recent discussions makes them strong contenders.
