Nintendo has announced the pricing for upgrading two popular Switch games to their Switch 2 Editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. The cost for these upgrades is significantly higher than expected.
For comparison, upgrading from the original Switch versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to their Switch 2 Editions costs $9.99 each. However, NintendoLife has revealed that the upgrade packs for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are priced at more than double that amount each.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild boasts improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integrates with the new "Zelda Notes" feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Breath of the Wild on Switch can access these enhancements by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10.
The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land includes new story content in the "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree’s Switch 2 Edition introduces "Jamboree TV," a new set of content utilizing the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. Both editions offer upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functionalities.
Although U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are not yet available—potentially due to President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack at £16.99 / €19.99, significantly higher than the £7.99 / €9.99 for upgrading Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
The Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade carries the same price, suggesting a U.S. cost of $19.99. This higher upgrade price may be linked to the substantial $80 price tag for the full versions of Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV, which are $20 more expensive than their original Switch counterparts at $59.99 each.
For those not upgrading, here are the U.S. prices for the Switch 2 Edition games:
- Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
- Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99
It's worth noting that Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom upgrade packs are available at no extra cost to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. However, no such offer exists for those looking to upgrade Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 opened on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. Due to high demand, Nintendo has warned U.S. customers that release date delivery is not guaranteed for those who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store.
