Nintendo has officially verified that the enigmatic new button on the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con is, as previously rumored, designated the C button.
This confirmation stems from the recently unveiled Nintendo Today! app. Listings on the App Store and Google Play feature an image that, upon close inspection, clearly displays the letter C on the button.
The new button was initially showcased alongside the Switch 2 earlier this year, although early images of the updated Joy-Con did not show any labeling. Previous reports had referred to it as the "C" button, which has now been substantiated.

There is considerable speculation regarding this button's function. Some theories propose it could be used for wirelessly "casting" the Switch 2 to a television or for screen sharing. Others speculate it might alter the Joy-Con's mode, such as switching to a mouse function. Additional conjecture points to the button enabling new group or voice chat features.
Nintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, where more details are expected to be revealed. In the meantime, here are the confirmed facts:
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set for a 2025 release, though a launch before June appears unlikely based on the hands-on event schedule. The console is larger than the original Switch, and features bigger Joy-Con that appear to be usable as a mouse. It includes two USB-C ports, one on the top and another on the bottom, whereas the original model had only one. The system is backward compatible; the official reveal video confirms it supports both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, in addition to Switch 2 exclusives, though some original Switch titles may not be fully supported. A new Mario Kart title is also in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.
