Hori's Nintendo Switch 2 Piranha Plant camera delivers only 480p resolution—significantly lower than Nintendo's official Switch 2 camera.
The UK My Nintendo Store officially confirmed the specs for both cameras:

Officially licensed by Nintendo, Hori's Piranha Plant camera costs less than Nintendo's $49.99 alternative. Notably, the Switch 2 supports both its proprietary camera accessory and third-party USB-C cameras. Both devices launch alongside the console on June 5.
The Piranha Plant camera offers unique versatility—its detachable webcam module can be placed directly atop the Switch 2, a portability advantage over Nintendo's fixed design. The plant's mouth also doubles as a lens cover.

Nintendo fans expressed disbelief at the 480p specification. "Who manufactures 480p cameras in 2025?" questioned Reddit user Ramen536Pie. "That seems more technically challenging than producing 1080p."
"This is comically outdated," commented LizardsoftheGhost. "Feels like a Wii U-era product."
"Isn't 480p objectively terrible by modern standards?" added pokemonfitness1420.
Last week's Nintendo Direct unveiled the Switch 2's GameChat feature, activated via the new Joy-Con's C button.
The system allows players to spectate each other's gameplay across different titles while maintaining video chat via compatible cameras. Built-in microphones ensure consistent voice quality regardless of environment, positioning the C button's chat menu as Nintendo's most ambitious online integration in years.
