Path of Exile 2's Atlas features four major endgame events: Breaches, Expeditions, Delirium, and Rituals. Rituals, inspired by the original Path of Exile's Ritual League, are detailed here.
This guide covers initiating Ritual events, key mechanics, the Ritual Passive Skill Tree, the Pinnacle boss (King in the Mists), and the unique Tribute and Favour reward system.
PoE 2 Rituals & Altars
Atlas map nodes with guaranteed endgame events are marked with specific icons. Ritual Altars are indicated by a red pentagram icon with a demonic face. Ritual encounters are guaranteed using a Ritual Precursor Tablet in a completed Lost Tower.
Maps with Rituals spawn multiple Altars, each with a shared random modifier affecting enemies and mechanics. These modifiers might include massive rat swarms or life-draining blood pools.
To activate a Ritual, interact with an Altar after noting its modifiers. A large circular area will illuminate; remain within this zone to defeat all enemies. Leaving the zone prematurely ends the event with no rewards. A map is considered complete once all Rituals are successfully finished.
Ritual Pinnacle Boss: The King in the Mists
The 'An Audience With The King' currency item, a random Ritual reward, unlocks the Crux of Nothingness and the King in the Mists boss fight. Use it in your Atlas Realmgate.
The King in the Mists' mechanics mirror his campaign counterpart. Practice is available in Act 1 Cruel difficulty, Freythorn zone. Defeating him grants 2 Ritual Passive Skill points, a chance at unique PoE 2 items, powerful currencies, and Omen items.
Ritual Passive Skill Tree
The Ritual Passive Skill Tree (accessed via the Atlas map's top-left button, bottom right of the Atlas tree) modifies Ritual events. It offers nodes that reduce Tribute costs, enhance rewards, and boost unique currency drop rates.
The tree features eight Notable nodes and eight nodes increasing King in the Mists difficulty. Each Notable node requires defeating the Crux of Nothingness (yielding 2 skill points).
Prioritize 'From The Mists', 'Spreading Darkness', and 'Ominous Portents' for increased rewards with minimal drawbacks. 'Tempting Offers' and 'He Approaches' follow, maximizing high-value Omens and 'An Audience With The King' chances. The table below details the Notable nodes:
Notable Delirium Passive | Effect | Requirements |
---|---|---|
Promised Devotion | 25% increased Ritual Altar skill damage; 50% less Tribute, 50% faster Favour appearance at Altars | N/A |
From The Mists | 2 extra enemy packs in Rituals | N/A |
Reinvigorated Sacrifices | Revived monsters gain 20% Toughness, deal 10% more damage; Tribute penalty removed for revived monsters | From The Mists |
Spreading Darkness | Always 4 Ritual Altars in maps with a Ritual | N/A |
Between Two Worlds | Rituals always contain a Wildwood Wisp (increased Tribute earned) | Spreading Darkness |
Ominous Portents | 25% faster monster waves, 50% increased Favour Omen chance | N/A |
He Approaches | 20% chance for revived monsters to be Magic or Rare; 50% chance for 'An Audience With The King' | Ominous Portents |
Tempting Offers | Extra Favour re-roll; 25% less Tribute for re-rolling | N/A |
PoE 2 Ritual Event Rewards
Completed Rituals grant Tribute, a temporary currency exchanged for Favours (randomized items). More Altars completed increase Tribute and unlock more Favours, including Rare gear and high-tier Currencies at higher Tribute levels. 'An Audience With The King' is a Favour reward.
Favours may include powerful Omens, which enhance other Currency items. Omens are consumed upon use. Examples include Omens of Annulment (specifying removed modifiers) and Alchemy (specifying added modifiers). Omens are highly valuable and tradable.
Ritual enemies also drop high-tier Currencies (Exalted Orbs, Vaal Orbs, etc.). The King in the Mists has a chance to drop Uniques from a Ritual-exclusive pool.
