We've Reviewed an RTX 5080 Equipped Gaming Laptop
While we haven't yet had the chance to test the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 10, we have reviewed a gaming laptop with the RTX 5080 GPU. The RTX 5080 offers only a slight improvement over the RTX 4080 in terms of raw rasterized performance but shines significantly when games support DLSS 4.0 with multi-frame generation. The Gigabyte Aorus Master, equipped with an RTX 5080 at a 150W TGP and a 2560x1600 display, showed performance that the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i, with its similar specifications, should be able to match in gaming scenarios.
Gigabyte Aorus Master 16" RTX 5080 Laptop Review by Chris Coke
Nvidia has positioned the 50-series GPUs to leverage their AI capabilities, rather than focusing solely on native rendering performance. While the RTX 5080's performance is disappointingly close to the RTX 4080, the gap widens when playing games that utilize multi-frame generation. The concept of "fake frames" might be controversial, but when it works well, it can dramatically boost performance. However, this can vary from game to game; for instance, Alan Wake 2 may feel laggy at higher settings, while Cyberpunk 2077 does not. With future technologies like neural shaders on the horizon, there's a compelling case for investing in these new GPUs, though it does mean buying into Nvidia's and game developers' future promises as they continue to enhance support for new and existing titles.
