The eagerly anticipated second season of The Last of Us is set to premiere on HBO this April. Confirmed by the network, the series will debut on Sunday, April 13, at 9 PM ET/PT, with simultaneous streaming available on Max. Comprising seven episodes, the upcoming season continues the story five years after the events of the first season, following Joel and Ellie as they reside with Joel’s brother, Tommy, in their Montana commune.
Adapting the narrative from The Last of Us Part 2, fans familiar with the game series will recognize the unfolding storyline. Joining returning stars Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie are several new cast members, including Kaityln Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Gunnar Björnson as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, and Tati Gabrielle as Nora. Notably, Gabrielle will also star in Naughty Dog’s upcoming game, Interstellar: The Heretic Prophet.
To mark the occasion, HBO has released new character posters featuring Joel, Ellie, and Abby.

The first season of The Last of Us received critical acclaim and multiple awards, including Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards and nominations for Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Outstanding Director, and Outstanding Writing. HBO’s Francesca Orsi has hinted at the possibility of four seasons in total, suggesting this season will continue the adaptation journey begun in the game.
