Troubleshooting "Serialization Error Action Needed" in Ready or Not
-
Verify Game Files: This is the first troubleshooting step. Ensure Steam isn't in offline mode. In your Steam library:
- Right-click Ready or Not.
- Select "Properties."
- Click "Local Files."
- Choose "Verify Integrity of Game Files."
Steam will automatically replace any corrupted or missing files. Retry launching the game. If successful, the problem is solved.
-
Remove Mods: Outdated or incompatible mods, especially those not updated for Unreal Engine 5 (post-July 2024), are a frequent cause. To remove mods:
- In your Steam library, right-click Ready or Not, select "Manage," then "Browse Local Files."
- Navigate to
ReadyorNot\Content\Paks
. - Delete the
mod.io
folder.
This will disable all mods. Try running the game; if it works, proceed to step 3.
-
Reinstall Mods (One by One): Reinstall your mods individually to identify the culprit. Check each mod's update date on Nexus Mods, Mod.io, or your source. Only install mods updated after July 2024 (the UE5 update). Install one, test the game, and repeat. If the error returns, the last installed mod is the problem; skip it. Mods not updated for UE5 are incompatible.
-
Reinstall Ready or Not: As a last resort, uninstall and reinstall Ready or Not completely. While less likely, hard drive corruption could also be a factor. However, outdated mods are the most common cause of this error.
Ready or Not is available on PC.
