Japanese game developer ZOO Corporation has launched SETTRIS, a new Android puzzle game that puts a fresh spin on classic block-stacking gameplay. If you enjoy methodical brain teasers, this slow-paced experience might be worth exploring.
More than just another Tetris clone?
While SETTRIS shares DNA with traditional block puzzles, it carves its own niche. The game encourages thoughtful problem-solving as you carefully fit oddly shaped polyomino pieces into grid layouts. Players can rotate and flip blocks, with early stages serving as gentle introductions before the real challenge begins. Notably absent is any hint system – success comes through experimentation and persistence.
Two distinct ways to play
SETTRIS offers both relaxed and competitive experiences through its dual game modes:
Stage Mode features 80 progressively difficult puzzles where players must perfectly fit given pieces into boards. The layouts grow increasingly complex as you advance.
Time Attack Mode introduces pressure with timed challenges across three difficulties (based on piece counts from 3 to 5). To earn achievements, players must solve 10 puzzles within 5 minutes at each tier. Puzzles appear randomly, encouraging pattern recognition and faster solutions over time.
This ad-supported single-player experience is available as a free download on Google Play. For more gaming news, explore our coverage of Lara Croft: Guardian of Light's new 'Try Before You Buy' update for Android.
