Silksong Arrives on September 4, 2025
Revealed in a Special Announcement by Team Cherry
During Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, Team Cherry announced the initial 2025 release window for Hollow Knight: Silksong. There, the studio confirmed that the highly anticipated sequel to the beloved Metroidvania Hollow Knight would launch before year's end. The developers also promised a dedicated YouTube broadcast to share further specifics.
Team Cherry aired their Hollow Knight: Silksong Special Announcement—later retitled the Hollow Knight: Silksong - Release Trailer—on August 8, 2025, at 10:30 AM EST. True to their word, the trailer concluded with the official launch date: September 4.
A fresh gameplay trailer thrilled viewers with new boss encounters and regions. It emphasized the game’s signature atmospheric tone, dramatic verticality, and vast explorable spaces. Importantly, it offered a look at the series' refined combat system—seemingly simple yet remarkably fast and technical—and hinted at over 40 new bosses and more than 200 additional enemies.
Silksong’s Long Road to Release

Until recently, updates about Silksong were sparse and infrequent. For over six years, gaming communities waited patiently. The extended silence fueled countless jokes and bittersweet memes, with fans frequently flooding live event chats with questions about the game's status. It’s rare to find a comment section that doesn't mention Silksong.
However, recent Steam database updates and a Nintendo showcase appearance offered the strongest hints of movement in years. Fans noticed new achievements, an official age rating, and additional game files. The presence of achievements is especially telling, as they often align with finished game content and require multilingual localization. Moreover, the store page now supports game purchases and CD keys, suggesting pre-orders may soon follow.
Significant depot changes were also observed. A depot is a logical collection of files delivered as a single package when a game is downloaded. The last update to one of these core file depots occurred back in 2019, around the game's original announcement.

This renewed backend activity, after years of quiet, fueled speculation that a release date was imminent. With major June gaming events like PlayStation's State of Play, Summer Game Fest, and the Xbox Games Showcase approaching, many hoped for a surprise release during one of these presentations.
Beyond backend updates, the upcoming playable exhibit at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne serves as another promising milestone. Running from September 18, 2025, to February 8, 2026, this exhibit will allow visitors to experience hands-on gameplay demos.
More announcements are expected as we approach the game's launch. For further details on Hollow Knight: Silksong, be sure to read our related article below.
