Sydney Sweeney Stars in New Split Fiction Film

Author : Carter May 06,2025

Sydney Sweeney, renowned for her role in *Madame Web*, is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of the hit video game *Split Fiction*. This project, helmed by *Wicked* director Jon M. Chu and penned by the acclaimed screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick of *Deadpool & Wolverine* fame, is being spearheaded by Story Kitchen, the powerhouse behind the successful *Sonic* films. As the project takes shape, it's being shopped around to major Hollywood studios, sparking anticipation of a competitive bidding war.

One intriguing aspect of Sweeney's involvement is the yet-to-be-decided role she will play—either Zoe or Mio, the game's central sisters. This choice adds an extra layer of excitement to the film's development.

Rodriguez/Getty Images for CinemaCon.*Split Fiction*, launched just in March, has already cemented its status as a major success for Hazelight and its designer Josef Fares, amassing over 2 million sales within its first week. It's also slated to be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. IGN's review lauded the game with a 9/10 score, praising its "expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another," highlighting its dynamic gameplay and engaging style.

This isn't the only Hazelight game making waves in Hollywood; *It Takes Two*, with its staggering 23 million copies sold, is also on track for a movie adaptation, potentially featuring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. While there's always a risk that these ambitious projects may not come to fruition, the current boom in successful video game adaptations suggests a strong potential for success.

Story Kitchen continues to expand its portfolio of game-to-film projects. Last year, it announced adaptations for Square Enix's *Just Cause*, *Dredge: The Movie*, *Kingmakers*, *Sleeping Dogs*, and even a live-action *Toys 'R' Us* movie. Meanwhile, Hazelight is already teasing its next game, keeping fans eagerly awaiting their next innovative title.
