There's a New Game of Thrones Illustrated Edition Coming in November, but Still No Winds of Winter

Author : Hazel Mar 21,2025

George R.R. Martin recently shared exciting news on his blog, though not about the highly anticipated *The Winds of Winter*. Instead, he unveiled the cover art for the illustrated edition of *A Feast for Crows*, the fourth book in the *A Song of Ice and Fire* series to receive this special treatment. The stunning artwork is by Jeffrey R. McDonald.

A Feast for Crows: The Illustrated Edition is slated for release on November 4, 2025. Pre-orders are now open at major book retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Target, among others.

This announcement is welcome news for collectors of the illustrated editions. The last release, *A Storm of Swords*, debuted in November 2020, making this a five-year gap between illustrated editions.

Beyond the illustrations, this edition will include a foreword by Joe Abercrombie. Martin's blog post promises a sneak peek at interior illustrations later this spring. For those wanting to complete their collection, the illustrated editions of *A Game of Thrones*, *A Clash of Kings*, and *A Storm of Swords* are already available.

What About *The Winds of Winter*?

While this news is exciting, fans eagerly awaiting *The Winds of Winter* may face a longer wait. Martin's December 2024 interview hinted at the possibility of never completing the series in his lifetime, despite confirming he'd written 1,100 pages in November 2023.

Although disappointing for those who've waited nearly 14 years, there's still a glimmer of hope. The completion of the first five illustrated editions before *The Winds of Winter* suggests a continued dedication to the series, albeit in a different format.

Do you think George R.R. Martin will finish *A Song of Ice and Fire*?
