Tides of Annihilation, drawing inspiration from Arthurian legend, casts players as Gwendolyn, a young woman battling alongside spectral knights to rescue her family and mend a fractured world.
The game unfolds in a ravaged, modern-day London, overrun by a mysterious otherworldly invasion. Gwendolyn and her ghostly allies confront relentless enemy hordes in the shattered streets. Massive, roaming knights form the game's primary antagonists, requiring players to scale and engage in intense, close-quarters combat.
While visually impressive, the game's narrative presents a challenge. Recent soulslike titles have successfully reimagined classic tales – "Journey to the West" offered Western audiences a fresh perspective, and "Lies of P" provided a unique twist on Pinocchio. However, the King Arthur narrative feels overused and familiar. This lack of a distinctive narrative hook unfortunately detracts from Tides of Annihilation's otherwise stunning visuals.
