Simply Sweet Games is a Canadian indie studio founded by women, launching their first title - Criss Cross Castle - on mobile today. This innovative word puzzle game blends fantasy storytelling with cutting-edge language technology.
Adaptive Puzzle Mechanics
Set in the magical kingdom of Lexiconia, Criss Cross Castle presents a world ravaged by the Illiterati, who've erased written language and plunged civilization into a Dark Age of Ignorance. As the player, you'll collect scattered words like enchanted relics to restore the land's lost stories.
Vocabulary becomes your mightiest weapon in this adventure - casting words like spells to unlock paths, discover treasures, and reveal secrets across an expansive branching map. The gameplay combines word jumbles with exploration elements and chance encounters with traveling merchants.
Players can choose between two protagonists: Wanda, a linguistic witch with a green thumb, or Pip, a strategic young squire guarding mysterious secrets. Take a look at the gameplay in action below:
Between vocabulary challenges, players can enjoy lighter mini-games, along with hidden scrolls, bonus challenges, and numerous side quests to explore.
A World Built on Language
Simply Sweet Games developed a proprietary language engine using basic large language model technology. This innovative system dynamically adjusts difficulty based on player vocabulary, supports ESL players, and filters inappropriate content.
Criss Cross Castle is now available as a free download on the Google Play Store, with an Epic Games Store release planned for Android users who prefer that platform.
