World of Warcraft's Festive Feast: A Lore-Filled Winter Veil Celebration
World of Warcraft's annual Feast of Winter Veil, a joyous in-game event mirroring Christmas, returns with fresh rewards and activities. This year's celebration is even more special thanks to a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, resulting in a captivating lore video exploring the holiday's rich history.
The video delves into the origins of Winter Veil, weaving together Dwarven myths about Greatfather Winter – a Titan-forged giant who blankets Azeroth with snow – and Tauren traditions of spiritual renewal and gratitude to the Earthmother. The video also highlights the humorous commercialization of the holiday by Smokeywood Pastures, a Goblin enterprise adding a modern twist to the ancient traditions.
Metzen the Reindeer: A Hilarious History
No Winter Veil story is complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Warcraft creative director Chris Metzen. This unfortunate creature boasts a history of kidnappings – by pirates, Dark Iron Dwarves, and even the Grinch! The video concludes with a fittingly amusing thank you from Metzen, voiced in Thrall's iconic tone (a nod to Metzen's voice acting).
A Fruitful Collaboration
This isn't PlatinumWoW's first collaboration with Blizzard. Previous projects include lore videos on Nerubians, Vrykul, the Scourge, World Trees, and Blackrock Depths, showcasing a diverse range of Warcraft's lore. This ongoing partnership, alongside other collaborations like Taliesin & Evitel's player guides and Hurricane's cinematic trailers, demonstrates Blizzard's commitment to engaging with the community through high-quality content.
Don't Miss Out!
The Feast of Winter Veil runs until January 5th, 2024. Hunters can tame the Dreaming Festive Reindeer, while all players can acquire new holiday transmogs and the Grunch pet. Remember to check under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special Winter Veil gift!
