Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members have just unlocked a powerful new benefit: the ability to stream select games directly to their Xbox consoles without needing to download them.
This exciting update was revealed in an official Xbox Wire post, announcing that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can now stream games from the Game Pass catalog as well as certain titles they already own. The feature is available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles through cloud streaming—no lengthy downloads or large storage requirements needed.
Previously, this functionality was limited to smart TVs, PCs, smartphones, and Meta Quest headsets. Now, for the first time, console users can enjoy seamless cloud gameplay, helping to conserve valuable local storage space and reduce wait times typically associated with large game installations.
How to Access Cloud Streaming on Xbox Consoles
To begin streaming games directly on your console:
- Navigate to My games & apps > Full library > Owned Games.
- Look for a cloud badge on supported titles—this indicates the game is ready for cloud streaming.
- Use the filter menu by selecting Filter > Ready to play > Cloud gaming to easily locate compatible games.
- Once you've chosen a title, simply click Play with Cloud Gaming to start streaming instantly.
For those who prefer to play remotely, any game installed on your Xbox can be streamed on devices with compatible web browsers using this link. Please note that while the feature is no longer accessible via the Xbox mobile app, it remains available on mobile devices through the browser. Xbox also plans to extend support to Samsung and Amazon Fire smart TVs, as well as Meta Quest headsets.
Additionally, starting this month, backward-compatible Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles will also support remote play, further expanding the range of games accessible via cloud.

All these updates are part of Microsoft’s broader initiative to help users manage and optimize storage space on Xbox consoles. A new system feature has been introduced in the My Games & Apps > Manage menu, offering tailored recommendations for clearing unnecessary files and freeing up disk space.
As modern games like Call of Duty and Baldur's Gate 3 continue to grow in size, Xbox has been steadily improving storage solutions. If you're still finding yourself short on space—even with these new tools—you might want to consider upgrading to one of the latest Xbox Series X|S models, which offer expanded internal storage capacities compared to the original versions.
