Tute Cabrero is a beloved and strategic card game originating from South America, enjoyed by players across the continent. It’s typically played by 3 to 5 participants, with each player competing individually—there are no teams involved.
The primary goal of Tute Cabrero is to either accumulate the most points or the fewest points during the game (known as "ir a más" or "ir a menos"), depending on the agreed-upon rules before the match begins. Interestingly, the player who finishes in second place is considered the loser, adding an exciting twist to the gameplay. The game uses a standard 40-card Spanish deck.
Card rankings are crucial to strategy in Tute Cabrero. From highest to lowest, the order is: Ace (worth 11 points), 3 (10 points), King (4 points), Knight (3 points), Jack (2 points), followed by the 7, 6, 5, 4, and 2, which hold no point value.
In terms of gameplay, the first card played in a trick sets the leading suit. Every player must follow that suit if possible; otherwise, they may play any other card. If a trump card is played, it automatically wins the trick. In cases where no trump is involved, the highest card of the leading suit takes the trick.
