A young woman embarks on a powerful journey through time, reliving pivotal moments in her family’s past.
DOT’S HOME is a single-player, 2D, narrative-rich adventure that centers on a young Black woman in Detroit, returning to her grandmother’s cherished home. As she steps into the past, she uncovers defining chapters in her family’s history—where race, place, and the meaning of home intersect through generations of resilience and difficult decisions.
Through an immersive, choice-driven experience, DOT’S HOME puts players in the shoes of those directly affected by systemic injustices. You’ll navigate real historical challenges like redlining, urban renewal, and gentrification—facing decisions about where to live, whom to trust, and what to sacrifice. Each choice reveals how deeply policy and prejudice shape lives, homes, and futures. The game poses a profound question: How did your family end up where they are today—and how much control did they really have over that path?
Developed by the Rise-Home Stories Project, DOT’S HOME is the result of a three-year collaboration between multimedia artists and housing and land justice advocates. Together, they’ve crafted a transformative narrative experience that reimagines the stories we tell about community, belonging, and equity—past, present, and future.
