The long-awaited details about the Nintendo Switch 2 have finally been revealed, and they're more impressive than many anticipated. The new console supports up to 120fps and can handle 4K resolution when docked, showcasing significant upgrades over its predecessor.
During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled several key features of the new system. The Nintendo Switch 2 boasts a larger 7.9-inch screen, maintaining the same thickness of 13.9mm as the original, but with double the pixels. It supports a 1080p resolution in handheld mode at up to 120fps, and features an LCD screen with HDR capabilities. When docked, it can deliver up to 4K resolution with HDR, enhancing the visual experience significantly.
The Joy-Con 2 controllers have been upgraded as well, now connecting via magnets and detaching with a release button on the back. The SL and SR buttons on the sides are larger for improved horizontal play, and the left and right sticks have been enlarged for better control. Additionally, the segment confirmed the introduction of mouse control support within the Joy-Con controllers.
The handheld version of the Nintendo Switch 2 includes a built-in microphone with noise-canceling technology and supports 3D audio for compatible games. It also features a larger, more robust stand that can be adjusted to various heights, and a top USB port for external camera connectivity or charging in tabletop mode.
One of the final revelations was that the Nintendo Switch 2 comes with 256GB of internal storage, providing ample space for games and applications.
