Atlus confirmed at yesterday's Xbox Game Showcase that a remake of Persona 4 is indeed in the works: Persona 4 Revival. However, the 40-second reveal trailer left some fans underwhelmed.
Critics pointed to the visual presentation, citing issues with the graphics, color palette, animations, and lighting. Others expressed disappointment over the lack of additional details, such as a release date or a confirmed Nintendo Switch 2 version.
"The graphics look like generic Unreal Engine assets, to be honest," remarked one viewer. "It almost has a fan-made feel to it (no offense intended)." Another added, "That was a highly underwhelming trailer."
Given that the remake was one of the industry's worst-kept secrets, some speculated the teaser was hastily assembled just to confirm its development.
"This feels like a 'fine, here you go' kind of trailer," commented one fan. Another suggested, "It seems like they threw this together after the voice actors announced they weren't returning. I can imagine the marketing team being asked to put together a 30-second clip the same day."
Following the announcement, P-Studio director Kazuhisa Wada took to social media to reassure fans that Atlus is "actively preparing for the future development of the Persona series."
"We are thrilled to announce Persona 4 Revival and look forward to sharing more information in due course," Wada wrote. "Persona 4 has inspired numerous spin-offs, including a TV anime, Persona 4 Arena, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, and Persona 4: Dancing All Night. It holds a special place in Atlus's history and in my own heart.
"We are pouring all our passion and love into this project. We believe it will offer a fresh and surprising experience for both newcomers and long-time fans, and we can't wait to share it with everyone."

Wada continued, "Additionally, as a studio, we are actively planning for the future of the Persona series. We are working diligently to meet the expectations of fans worldwide, and development is progressing smoothly." He concluded by thanking fans for their support and hinted that they should "stay tuned" for future updates.
We awarded the original Persona 4 a 9/10 in our review, praising it as "a significant improvement over previous Persona titles, offering a deeper dungeon-crawling and social link experience that keeps players engaged." The enhanced version, Persona 4 Golden, has since become the definitive way to play on modern consoles, though fans have long expressed disappointment that it's still not available on Nintendo Switch, despite years of requests.
