DC's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Commences Filming; First Look at Milly Alcock Revealed

Production has officially begun on DC's highly anticipated film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To mark the occasion, DC Studios head James Gunn unveiled a first look at Milly Alcock (renowned for her role in House of the Dragon) as Kara Zor-El, the titular Supergirl.

Gunn shared on Bluesky a photo of Alcock in her director's chair, offering a glimpse of the actress in character. His post also confirmed Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya) as the film's director, a fact previously reported last April.

Gunn expressed his excitement, stating, "Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El."

The film is largely based on Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira's acclaimed graphic novel. This standalone story centers on Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl who enlists Supergirl's aid in avenging her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem. The graphic novel garnered a 2022 Eisner Award nomination for "Best Limited Series" and is highly recommended.

Casting announcements include Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem and Eve Ridley as Ruthye. Further cast members include David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl's father), Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa, reprising his role as Lobo within the new DC universe.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow follows James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, slated for release this summer, as the second film in the rebooted DC Universe. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II (with uncertain connection to Gunn's universe) and a reported Clayface film from Mike Flanagan.
