To initiate the quest, you must begin the "Into the Underworld" main mission. This involves tracking down an informant named Goatskin. Start by speaking with the Bathhouse Madam, then Adam; he'll reveal Goatskin's theft from Master Schindel.
Finding Goatskin requires a bit of cunning. Instead of speaking with Lousy Mary, follow Udo, a bathhouse customer who appears on the first floor in the evening. Follow him discreetly; Goatskin will attempt to rob him in an alley, providing an opportunity for confrontation.
During this encounter, attempt to obtain a map from Goatskin. If persuasion fails, bribery will suffice. The map, detailing the Kuttenberg Underground, is found on a corpse at the Kuttenberg gallows (southeastern city).
Navigating the Kuttenberg Underground is tricky. To expedite the retrieval of the stolen items, locate the northern entrance shown below. Descend the ladder into the dark underground area (remember your torch!).
Make consecutive left turns until you reach a barrel at a dead end (this may involve a jump down). The barrel contains the stolen book and astrolabe. Retrace your steps to exit the underground.
Find Master Schindel (usually northeast of the city during the day). Return his items to complete the quest and receive your reward. He'll initially be displeased but will become more receptive upon receiving his belongings. Further conversation will reveal insights into the astrolabe and planetary mechanics.
Completing this side quest, while brief, provides valuable reputation points and rewards.
