To tackle Rompopolo effectively, arm yourself with water-element weapons, which you can obtain from Uth Duna in the Scarlet Forest. Additionally, equip gear with fire resistance, which you can also farm from Uth Duna or Ajarakan later in the chapter. Consider crafting a Fire Charm I or a Defense Charm I to bolster your defenses. Before heading into battle, don't forget to grill a meal to boost your health and stamina.
Rompopolo Attacks and Weaknesses

Rompopolo is a unique Brute Wyvern with a bipedal body and saggy skin that inflates with gas, which it uses for explosive attacks. It can also inflict poison, so carry Antidotes and rely on your Palico to cleanse ailments. Be prepared for these key attacks:
- Arm Swipe: Rompopolo swipes forward twice with its clawed arms. This attack is easy to dodge due to its limited range.
- Lunge With Arm Swipe: It charges forward and raises both arms to perform an arcing swipe.
- Tail Swing: Rompopolo swings its tail at its target.
- Poison Stream or Swipe: It either sprays a stream of poison gas or charges while swinging its head and spraying poison.
- Oil Explosion: From a distance, it uses its tail stinger to inject gas into oil pools, causing eruptions. Dodge these explosions carefully.
- Charged Oil Explosion: Later in the fight, it pumps more gas into the oil for a larger explosion. Dodge this to avoid significant damage.
Should You Kill or Capture Rompopolo?

At the end of the battle, you can choose to capture or kill Rompopolo. To capture, weaken it until your Palico notes it looks "tired," then use a Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap followed by a Tranq Bomb to complete the capture. Both options yield different rewards, though the differences are minor. Some items are exclusive to capturing, while others are obtained by killing.
