Wolcen Studio has announced Project Pantheon, a free-to-play action RPG incorporating extraction shooter mechanics. A closed alpha test begins January 25th in Europe, expanding to North America on February 1st.
Game director Andrei Cirkulete describes the game as a blend of extraction shooter tension and risk-reward with the combat dynamics of an ARPG. The game clearly draws inspiration from titles like Diablo and Escape from Tarkov. Player feedback is highly valued during this alpha phase.
Players assume the role of a Death messenger, striving to restore order to a ravaged world. They'll face both AI and player-controlled opponents while exploring diverse maps. Successful extractions preserve earned trophies, while failed attempts result in complete loot loss.
Extensive customization options are available, including base building, equipment personalization, and diverse playstyles. The game world is inspired by global mythologies, with player trading forming the core of its economy.
The initial adventure unfolds in "Destiny's Edge," a region echoing Scandinavian legends. Despite being in early alpha, the developers plan to actively engage the community to shape the game's development.
