Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Reportedly Exits BioWare

Author : Gabriella Feb 19,2025

Corinne Busche, the director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly departing from BioWare, an EA subsidiary.

Eurogamer reports Busche's departure, scheduled for the coming weeks, following her tenure as game director from February 2022 until the game's launch last year. IGN has reached out to EA for comment.

The commercial success of Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been a subject of speculation since its October release. While Eurogamer indicates Busche's exit is unrelated to the game's performance, EA's official stance on sales figures remains pending. Their Q3 2025 financial results, expected February 4th, may shed light on this.

BioWare has confirmed no DLC is planned for The Veilguard, shifting focus to Mass Effect 5, a project previously teased but yet to be fully unveiled.

This news follows August 2023 layoffs affecting approximately 50 BioWare employees, including veteran narrative designer Mary Kirby. These cuts coincided with internal restructuring at EA, effectively dividing the company into sports and non-sports divisions, and fueled rumors of a potential BioWare acquisition. The decision to transition Star Wars: The Old Republic to a third-party publisher was reportedly intended to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The unveiling of Dragon Age: The Veilguard in 2024 initially faced negative reception, prompting BioWare to quickly release gameplay footage to appease fans. The name change from Dreadwolf also drew criticism. Despite initial setbacks, later impressions of the game were generally positive.

The future of the Dragon Age franchise remains uncertain, leaving fans questioning whether BioWare will receive the opportunity to develop a sequel to The Veilguard.
