Gunn, Cena Surprised by HBO Max Rebrand

DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn and other members of the Peacemaker crew experienced a surprising revelation while filming promotional material for Season 2. Warner Bros. Discovery announced the reversion of their streaming service's name back to HBO Max, a decision that caught the team off guard and led to some priceless reactions.

The news of the streaming service reverting to the HBO Max name, ditching the short-lived Max moniker, left not just fans but also major players at DC Studios puzzled. The official X account of the soon-to-be-renamed Max shared videos capturing the real-time reactions of Gunn and Peacemaker star John Cena as they learned about the change.

In the footage, Gunn is seen reading from a teleprompter, promoting Peacemaker Season 2 set to debut on August 21. Mid-sentence, he is visibly taken aback when the script references HBO Max instead of Max. "God, we’re calling it HBO Max – what? We’re calling it HBO Max again?" Gunn quips, showing his surprise. Other crew members, including DC Studios Co-CEO Peter Safran, also chime in, adding to the confusion and humor of the moment. Gunn, however, expresses his approval of the change, stating, "That’s good, actually, but I didn’t know that was happening."

Meanwhile, John Cena appears to be well-informed about the rebrand. In his video, he is seen breaking the news to some crew members behind the camera, adding an element of surprise and comedy to the situation.

While this could be an elaborate publicity stunt by the HBO Max team, the genuine reactions from such prominent figures in DC Studios provide an entertaining glimpse into the behind-the-scenes dynamics. The videos were shared on social media, with captions like "That's good actually" and "POV: finding out about the rebrand from @JohnCena."

HBO Max initially launched in 2020, offering a wide array of streaming content. The service was rebranded to Max in 2023 following the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery. After two years of adjustment to the new name, the company has decided to revert to HBO Max, acknowledging the original name's value.

Although no specific date for the rebrand has been announced, fans can stay updated on both HBO Max and Peacemaker Season 2. In the meantime, you can explore other notable DC projects slated for 2025 and delve into the key highlights from the latest Peacemaker Season 2 trailer.
