Player First Games has announced the upcoming closure of its platform fighter, MultiVersus, with Season 5 marking its final chapter. The game, launched May 28, 2024, will conclude its run on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. This announcement, detailed in a blog post on the studio's website, signifies the end of online support for MultiVersus.
Season 5, commencing February 4, 2025, will be the game's last hurrah. While online play will cease on May 30th, Player First Games assures players that all earned and purchased content will remain accessible offline through local and training modes. The developers expressed gratitude for the community's support in a heartfelt message.

Real-money transactions have been discontinued, effective immediately. However, Gleamium and character tokens can still be used to acquire in-game content until the game's official shutdown. MultiVersus will also be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store concurrently.
This closure follows reports of MultiVersus' underperformance for Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in a significant $100 million writedown, contributing to a larger $300 million loss in the company's games sector. This financial setback, alongside other factors, led to the departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad.
Despite the game's premature end, just days before its first anniversary, Season 5 promises a robust send-off. Alongside standard seasonal updates, new playable characters Lola Bunny and Aquaman will join the roster. Lola Bunny will be unlockable via a daily calendar reward, while Aquaman will be available through the battle pass, both launching next week.
