MultiVersus Nears Shutdown: Warner Bros. Game Loses 99% of Players

Rumors are swirling that Season 5 of MultiVersus might be the game's final hurrah. AusilMV, known for reliable game leaks, has reported that a trusted source indicated Season 5 is the developers' last-ditch effort to revive the game's fortunes. While it's still just a rumor, the situation is causing concern among the community.

When MultiVersus launched in 2022, it enjoyed explosive success, reaching a peak of 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the game's online presence plummeted by 99% shortly after, leading Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, labeling it an "open beta test." Despite a return in May 2024 with updates, the game has struggled to recapture its initial popularity.

The fifth season, set to kick off in early February, is seen as the developers' final opportunity to rekindle player interest. This relaunch, while referred to by the developers as a continuation from the 2022 "beta," marks a critical juncture for MultiVersus. The initial release in 2022 was warmly received by players, but the decision to temporarily shut down the game in June 2023, announced in March of that year, left many fans, especially those who had purchased the premium edition to support the developers, feeling disappointed and frustrated.
