Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls directly on the Home screen, adding a new layer of interactivity to the console's interface. Since the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, the gaming community has been buzzing with excitement about the innovative Joy-Con's mouse functionality. Last month, Nintendo provided official confirmation that the new Joy-Con can switch to "mouse mode," allowing players to glide the controllers over surfaces and use the analog sticks to mimic left-click and right-click actions, much like a traditional mouse. Moreover, players have the option to use two Joy-Con in mouse mode simultaneously, either with one in each hand or with one in standard mode and the other in mouse mode.
Further details have now emerged via the Nintendo Today app and shared on X/Twitter, showcasing the application of Joy-Con 2 mouse controls for navigating the Home menu on the Switch 2. As demonstrated, "placing the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down causes a cursor to appear on screen," according to Nintendo. They further explained, "To display the cursor, simply place the Joy-Con 2 on a table or flat surface and move it accordingly. While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus, and these controls are functional on the Home menu as well as in compatible software." To revert to thumbstick controls, just reposition the Joy-Con 2 horizontally.
While the full scope of game compatibility with the mouse controls remains undisclosed, Nintendo has demonstrated the technology in action with the Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, along with the unique wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.
The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for release on June 5. Pre-orders for the console opened on April 24, maintaining a price point of $449.99, and were met with overwhelming demand, as one might expect.
