Get ready for more high-octane action as Rambo is set to make a thrilling return with a prequel project titled John Rambo. Directed by Jalmari Helander, known for his work on Sisu and Big Game, this new venture is being launched by Millennium Media at the Cannes market. The Cannes market, a key event during the Cannes Film Festival, serves as a platform for upcoming films to attract funding and distribution partners. Millennium Media, the powerhouse behind the Expendables and Has Fallen series, previously brought us Rambo in 2008 and Rambo: Last Blood in 2019.
John Rambo is set to delve into the Vietnam War, serving as a prequel to the iconic 1982 film First Blood. While plot details remain under wraps, the excitement is building. Casting has yet to be finalized, and although Sylvester Stallone, the original Rambo, is aware of the project, he is not currently involved.
The screenplay for John Rambo comes from the talented duo Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, who previously worked on The Mauritanian and Black Adam. Filming is scheduled to kick off in Thailand in October, promising to bring the gritty realities of the Vietnam War to life on screen.
Helander's recent success with the 2023 WWII action film Sisu, which transformed John Wick into an elderly Finnish commando battling Nazis, showcases his ability to handle intense action and compelling narratives. This experience positions him perfectly to deliver a gripping prequel to the Rambo saga.
