The announcement came during a livestream on April 16, where developer Jagex revealed that the game is now accessible on Steam for early access. This comes shortly after the game's first trailer was released, astonishing fans who had only recently added it to their Steam wishlists on April 1 and seen its first gameplay teaser on April 2. Although introduced in 2022, it wasn't until late 2024 that Jagex began alpha testing sign-ups for what was then described as a "new survival game set in the RuneScape universe." The game's official reveal as RuneScape: Dragonwilds happened on March 31, 2025.
Estimated Official Release Date in Early 2026
Jagex estimates that RuneScape: Dragonwilds will see its official release in early 2026. The developers are committed to refining the game, as stated by Jagex, "We want to ensure our players receive a complete, satisfying experience that they'll want to revisit with friends time and again."
Jesse America, Jagex's Executive Producer, highlighted that Dragonwilds offers a fresh take on the RuneScape universe, aimed at both long-time fans and newcomers. Early Access Roadmap Revealed
Jagex has shared an exciting roadmap for the early access phase of RuneScape: Dragonwilds. A key highlight is the introduction of the new region, Fellhollow, a mystical land caught between life and death, ruled by the soul-eater dragon Imaru. This region is influenced by the wild anima of Ashenfall and the cursed energy of the Underworld. Players will be joined by the iconic RuneScape character Death on this adventure, which promises new quests, lore, gear, and music, as well as new skills in magic, ranged, and farming.
Additionally, the game will introduce Lesser Dragons as new enemies, along with dragon slayer gear, a hardcore mode, and a creative mode. While specific release dates for these updates remain undisclosed, Jagex assures continuous enhancements to the game.
