Insomniac Games Eyes More Game-to-Screen Adaptations Following CEO's Retirement

Ratchet and Clank 2nd Movie Considered by Insomniac GamesInsomniac Games, renowned for its Ratchet & Clank franchise, has expressed strong interest in further adapting its games for film and television. This revelation comes from co-Studio Head Ryan Schneider in a recent Variety interview, following the announcement of founder and CEO Ted Price's retirement.

"Reflecting on the Ratchet & Clank movie from a few years back, we got an early start on that process," Schneider stated. "Naturally, we're keen on pursuing similar projects. We're particularly fond of Ratchet & Clank."

The 2016 Ratchet & Clank film received mixed critical response. However, with Sony's acquisition of Insomniac in 2019 and Sony's proven success in game adaptations (notably, the acclaimed The Last of Us), Insomniac is optimistic about its future in this arena.

Further bolstering this strategy, Sony's CES 2025 press conference unveiled several upcoming projects: The Last of Us Season 2 (HBO, April 2025), an Until Dawn live-action film (April 2025), a Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime series (Crunchyroll, 2027), and feature films based on Helldivers and Horizon Zero Dawn, though release dates for the latter two remain unannounced.

Price explained his decision, stating, "I made this decision last year. After over 30 years leading Insomniac, it felt like the right time to step aside and allow others to guide the team forward."

Three long-time Insomniac veterans—Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang—will assume leadership as co-Studio Heads. Price expressed confidence in their abilities, emphasizing their deep understanding of Insomniac's culture and processes. "I firmly believe that our continued success hinges on leaders intimately familiar with our methods, leaders who have helped shape our culture and processes, and who have earned the team's trust," he stated.
