The story begins with the Nohara family relocating to a serene village in Akita Prefecture after Hiroshi secures a job near his hometown. They move into a traditional Japanese farmhouse and start embracing the peaceful rhythm of rural life.
At first, Shin Chan spends his days exploring the wonders of country living with his grandfather Ginnosuke. You’ll enjoy tranquil mornings and evenings fishing by Akita’s rivers, catching insects in the groves, and helping out with farming tasks under grandma’s guidance.
However, things take an unexpected turn when Shiro, the family dog, mysteriously returns covered in soot and darts off. Naturally, Shin Chan gives chase—and stumbles upon a train that seemingly appears out of nowhere. One accidental ride later, he arrives in the peculiar place known as Coal Town.

Coal Town feels like a world frozen in time, echoing the retro vibes of Japan’s Showa era. The town is lively with workers, classic architecture, and nostalgic aesthetics. Unlike the quiet countryside, this bustling environment introduces new locations such as a children’s park, diner, shops, restaurants, and apartment blocks—some of which are interactive, while others simply add to the immersive setting.
Here, you meet Yuri—a young inventor who enlists your help in gathering materials for her creative experiments aimed at improving life for the townspeople. But trouble arises when her older brother, Chuck, rolls into town. His attempt at creating a “waste-free” system quickly spirals into chaos, making daily life miserable for everyone. It’s up to you and Yuri to stop Chuck and restore harmony to Coal Town.
